Tribes and Problem Solving

Problem Solving Model

To help build independence and confidence we follow a consistent problem solving model here at PLR. To help maintain that consistency we would like to share that language with you. When faced with a problem students are told to follow these steps:
  1. Say “Stop” (“I don’t like it when you…. Please stop…”)
  2. Give a warning (“If you don’t stop I’m going to go get help”)
  3. Get help (Go find a duty teacher if outside or the classroom teacher if in class)

We also encourage the students to actively make positive choices when facing a conflict. We often reference the Wheel of Choice.

Tribes Agreements

Here at PLR we are a Tribes school which means that we work hard to build a strong sense of community in our school. We have spoken extensively about the 4 Tribes agreements which are: Mutual Respect, Attentive Listening, Appreciations (no put downs) and Active Participation. Students who follow these agreements are supporting their learning and the learning of others by fully engaging in our classroom and school community in a positive way. There are also many links between the Tribes agreements and the Learning Skills featured on the Report Card. We encourage you to ask your child about the Tribes agreements, to explain them to you and give you examples of each one.
